Why Stability Matters for Handheld XRF
As a performance indicator, stability means a long duration of time that the instrument gives correct operation, without the need for recalibrating to be done by the manufacturer.
High stability is achieved through the use of the DigiX-50 digital X-ray emitter and the operation of many sensors incorporated in the gun.
Portable X-ray ray fluorescence (pXRF) is becoming a routine method for collecting chemical data at different altitudes during mineral exploration campaigns. As altitude increases, air density decreases, and the physics of X-rays being transmitted through the air means that the transmission of low-energy X-rays increases, and accordingly the transmission effectiveness of low-atomic weight elements (e.g. Mg, Al, and Si) also increases. Barometric pressure changes also have an effect on performance although to a lesser degree than altitude changes but are also corrected for by the feedback algorithms.
Temperature changes affect the performance of the Handheld XRF detector and corrections automatically adjust for these changes and keep the energy calibrations within tolerance.
In #Elvatech#handheld#analyzers, the digital correction of indicators is carried out automatically – the temperature and pressure influence correction along with automatic energy calibration occur at each measurement.
This ensures the consistency of the data obtained with a large number of measurements and for long service life.
This attention to detail makes these instruments low maintenance and gives reliable results day in and day out.
